Arlington, TX (June 30, 2025) – A tragic chain of events ended in a fatal accident on Interstate 30 in Arlington early Saturday morning, leaving a 19-year-old man dead and two others injured. According to Arlington police, the deadly crash occurred before 4 a.m. on June 28 in the westbound lanes of I-30 near Baird Farm Road.
Investigators say Angel Alonso, 19, was initially involved in a separate collision when his vehicle struck an abandoned car parked on the shoulder lane. The impact forced both vehicles into the main lanes of Interstate 30, creating a hazard for oncoming traffic. Alonso reportedly got out of his car and tried to direct other drivers around the scene using his cellphone light in an effort to prevent further crashes.
Moments later, a vehicle driven by Brittani Watkins, 33, struck Alonso and his disabled vehicle. The collision caused Watkins’ car to flip onto its side. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Alonso was found lying in the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene. Watkins and a 33-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital; Watkins sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while her passenger suffered serious injuries.
Witnesses told authorities they saw Watkins’ vehicle swerving before the crash. Arlington police suspected intoxication, and after testing, Watkins was arrested and charged with one count of driving while intoxicated. The Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting as the investigation continues, and additional charges against Watkins are pending.
