Dallas, TX (October 13, 2025) – A pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday night,October 12, in the Bishop Arts District after being hit by a speeding SUV whose driver fled the scene, according to the Dallas Police Department.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 400 block of West Davis Street. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, first responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that the victim had parked his car nearby and was crossing the street to meet friends at a taqueria when a white SUV traveling at high speed hit him. The impact threw the victim several feet, and the SUV continued forward, crashing into a parked vehicle. The driver then fled on foot.

Police located the suspected driver about an hour later, roughly a mile from the scene. The man was transported to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into jail. Authorities have not yet released the names of either the victim or the driver.

West Davis Street was temporarily closed while Dallas police conducted an on-site investigation. The crash remains under active review.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this tragic time.

Fatal Hit-and-Run Accidents in Dallas

Hit-and-run accidents like this recent tragedy are among the most devastating types of roadway incidents. Families are often left in shock and grief, facing sudden emotional and financial hardships.

Under Texas law, families who lose a loved one due to a driver’s negligence may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

Through a wrongful death lawsuit, surviving family members can seek compensation for a range of losses, including funeral and burial expenses, medical costs incurred before death, and loss of financial support that the victim would have provided.

Additionally, families may recover damages for loss of companionship, guidance, and emotional suffering caused by the unexpected loss of a loved one. In cases involving reckless or criminal behavior—such as fleeing the scene—courts may also award punitive damages to hold the at-fault driver fully accountable.

These claims not only help families recover financially but also serve a vital purpose in promoting safer driving behavior throughout Dallas. Pursuing justice with the help of a wrongful death lawyer can provide closure and ensure that negligent or reckless drivers face the consequences of their actions.
