El Paso, TX (October 9, 2025) – On October 8, 22-year-old Luis Francisco Salcido died from severe injuries he suffered in a pedestrian crash in far East El Paso last week.
The deadly collision happened around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, near the intersection of North Zaragoza Road and Sun Fire Boulevard. Investigators said Salcido was crossing the intersection against the signal when he reached the median and stepped back into the roadway.
At that moment, an SUV towing two vehicles entered the intersection and struck him with significant force. The impact threw Salcido to the ground, leaving him critically injured. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors could not save his life. He died shortly after arrival from the severe trauma caused by the collision.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including whether any additional factors contributed to the deadly impact.
We extend our deepest condolences to Salcido’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Traffic crashes in Texas continue to take a devastating toll on pedestrians. In busy cities like El Paso, Dallas, and Fort Worth, people walking near intersections or along busy roads face huge risks every day. A single moment of distraction, speeding, or recklessness behind the wheel can end a life and devastate an entire family.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, more than 800 pedestrians die every year in traffic crashes statewide. Many of these tragedies happen in crosswalks, at intersections, or on multi-lane roads where drivers fail to yield or react in time.
Some of the most common causes of deadly pedestrian accidents include:
- Driver Distraction: Phones, GPS systems, and in-car screens divert attention from the road.
- Failure to yield: Drivers often ignore crosswalk signals or fail to stop for pedestrians with the right of way.
- Speeding: Higher speeds shorten reaction time and make crashes far more likely to be fatal.
- Impairment: Alcohol or drugs slow reaction times and cloud judgment, increasing the risk of deadly mistakes.
When a pedestrian is struck, the consequences are often catastrophic. Families are left grieving, facing unexpected medical bills, funeral expenses, and the lifelong emotional toll of losing someone they love. These losses can also lead to financial hardship, especially when the victim was a source of income or support.
If your family lost a loved one in a pedestrian crash, you have legal options. Texas law allows surviving relatives to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can provide compensation for funeral costs, lost income, emotional suffering, and more. Taking legal action can also help hold negligent drivers accountable and bring justice to your family.
