El Paso, TX (October 10, 2025) – Authorities have identified the bicyclist killed earlier this week in a collision on El Paso’s east side as 67-year-old Arturo Galvan.

According to the El Paso Police Department, the deadly crash happened Tuesday morning, October 7, around 10:46 a.m. near the intersection of Turner Road and Healy.

Investigators said a 22-year-old driver was heading east on Turner Road when Galvan attempted a U-turn. The vehicle struck the bicyclist, throwing him to the ground. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported Galvan to a nearby hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed that the department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to reconstruct the collision and determine what caused the crash.

Authorities have not released the driver’s name, and no charges have been announced as of October 10. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Arturo Galvan during this difficult time.

Bicycle Accidents in El Paso

Bicycle accidents in El Paso often cause serious or fatal injuries. Cyclists have little protection on busy city roads. Intersections are especially dangerous due to poor visibility, heavy traffic, and distracted drivers.

Bicycle collisions can occur for several common reasons, including:

  • Driver distraction or inattention (such as texting or looking away from the road)
  • Unsafe lane changes or failure to yield to cyclists
  • Excessive speed that reduces reaction time
  • Poor visibility during early morning or midday glare
  • Improper turns or failure to check blind spots before maneuvering

Sadly, older riders like Mr. Galvan are often more vulnerable to life-threatening injuries due to age-related fragility. In fatal crashes, surviving family members face emotional pain and financial challenges, including medical bills, funeral costs, and loss of companionship.

When a preventable accident leads to a fatality, working with an experienced wrongful death attorney can help families seek justice and accountability. A skilled lawyer can investigate the crash, review police reports and witness statements, and determine whether driver negligence or other factors contributed to the tragedy. Legal guidance also ensures that families understand their rights and pursue compensation for the losses they have endured.
