Both drivers—identified as 24-year-old De’Tavius Hayes and 22-year-old Deovion Alexander—were taken into custody. They are facing charges related to a collision involving death.
Investigators have not released the names or ages of the victims. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine all contributing factors.
We send our condolences to the family of the deceased and hope the injured victims heal fully.
Car Accidents in Texas
Crashes involving pedestrians at bus stops are especially dangerous and often result in serious or fatal injuries. In Texas, where urban roads are busy and high-speed driving is common, these types of incidents are tragically not rare. The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to report high rates of serious traffic-related injuries and deaths each year. Understanding what causes these crashes can help reduce risks.
In the aftermath of a fatal accident, families are often left with painful questions. Here are some key factors to understand:
- Street Racing and Speeding: Speeding remains one of the top causes of car accidents. When two vehicles race on public roads, it increases the likelihood of losing control and hitting pedestrians or nearby structures.
- Pedestrian Vulnerability: Those waiting at bus stops have little protection against oncoming vehicles. Even a single moment of driver inattention or recklessness can cause life-altering harm.
- Crash Scene Evidence: Skid marks, vehicle damage, and video footage are vital in determining fault. This evidence must be collected quickly before it’s lost or altered.
- Criminal Charges and Civil Claims: Drivers who cause fatal injuries may face both criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits. Families of the deceased can file wrongful death claims to pursue financial recovery and accountability.
- Long-Term Impact: Families often face sudden expenses, from funeral costs to lost income. The emotional toll can last a lifetime, making legal support essential for long-term stability.
