Irving, TX (September 1, 2024) – A deadly wrong-way collision occurred on Friday night, August 29, on State Highway 114 near the Irving–Grapevine line.
The crash took place shortly before 8:30 p.m. when a vehicle traveled east in the westbound lanes of the highway. According to police from both cities, the wrong-way vehicle struck another car head-on near North Freeport Parkway.
Emergency crews quickly arrived and closed the westbound lanes while tending to the victims. The wrong-way driver, identified as 45-year-old Donald Joseph Personett Jr., received treatment at the scene. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.
The second driver sustained serious injuries. Grapevine Fire Department personnel transported the individual to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the tragic crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver as they fight to recover, and we extend condolences to the family of Mr. Personett during this difficult time.
Wrong-Way Car Accidents in Texas

Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous collisions on Texas roads. When a driver enters the wrong lane, the risk of a head-on crash increases dramatically. These accidents often happen at night or in areas with confusing road designs, and they frequently result in severe injuries or fatalities.
Unfortunately, wrong-way drivers can cause catastrophic harm to other motorists. The aftermath of these accidents often leaves victims and their families facing long hospital stays, steep medical costs, and overwhelming emotional stress.
Some of the most common outcomes of a wrong-way accident include:
- Head injuries and traumatic brain damage
- Neck and spine injuries
- Broken bones and internal bleeding
- Permanent disability or wrongful death
Victims who survive such accidents may need months or years of rehabilitation. Families who lose loved ones face emotional pain and sudden financial strain. In these cases, speaking with a skilled car accident lawyer can make a difference. Legal guidance can help injured victims or grieving families pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, funeral costs, and pain and suffering.
