Melissa, TX (August 15, 2025) – A significant motor vehicle accident disrupted traffic on a busy stretch of U.S. Highway 75 in Melissa on Friday morning.
At around 8:55 a.m. on August 15, the Melissa Police Department responded to reports of a serious crash along the northbound side of U.S. Highway 75 near Throckmorton Road. The accident prompted immediate lane closures, with all northbound traffic being forced to exit at Melissa Road.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene to assist those involved. At least one person sustained injuries and required transportation to a local hospital for further evaluation and care. Authorities have not released the total number of vehicles involved, but the crash was severe enough to warrant a full shutdown of the northbound lanes for several hours.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is expected to assist with the ongoing investigation. Crews worked throughout the morning to clear debris and reopen the affected lanes. Police advised drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until the roadway was safe for travel.
We hope those injured in this accident recover rapidly.
Car Accidents in Texas
Texas roadways continue to see a high volume of traffic accidents each year. In 2023, data from the Texas Department of Transportation showed over 4,000 fatal crashes statewide, many of which involved major highways like U.S. 75. These types of collisions often lead to serious injuries and lengthy road closures, causing added stress and risk for everyone on the road.
After experiencing an accident like this, it’s important to understand the kinds of consequences that can follow. Here are a few areas worth knowing:
- Whiplash and Neck Injuries: These are among the most common injuries in high-speed collisions. Even with a seatbelt, the rapid back-and-forth motion of the neck can lead to long-term pain, headaches, and reduced mobility.
- Lower Back Trauma: Back injuries can arise from impact with the seat or other parts of the vehicle. Some cases lead to herniated discs or spinal cord issues, requiring physical therapy or surgery.
- Delayed Symptoms: Not all injuries are visible right away. Adrenaline can mask pain for hours or even days. It’s important to seek medical care immediately, even if you feel fine initially.
- Lost Income: Many victims are unable to return to work for weeks or months. The financial impact of missed wages can be overwhelming, especially when paired with mounting medical expenses.
- Insurance Disputes: Insurance companies may try to minimize payouts. Victims often face challenges in receiving the full compensation they deserve without legal help.
