Plano, TX (May 21, 2025) – Two young children were rushed to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a car at a busy Plano intersection. The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. on May 20 at the intersection of West Plano Parkway and Accent Drive.
Preliminary reports from the Plano Police Department indicate that a vehicle traveling westbound on West Plano Parkway failed to stop at a red light. As a result, it struck two juvenile pedestrians who were attempting to cross the road. Plano Fire-Rescue arrived quickly, administering aid at the scene before transporting both children to a local hospital.
While initially reported to have serious injuries, both children were listed in stable condition by Tuesday evening. However, doctors continue to assess their injuries. The intersection was shut down for several hours as investigators examined the scene. A small SUV remained parked nearby, surrounded by police cruisers.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the location and cooperated with law enforcement. Authorities noted that there is no evidence at this time to suggest that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. The Plano Police Department’s Traffic Unit is continuing their investigation.
We hope the injured children make a full and speedy recovery.
Car Accidents in Texas
Car accidents are a leading cause of injury across Texas. With thousands of crashes occurring on Texas roads each year, the consequences often include severe injuries and long-term recovery. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, nearly one in five crashes involves a pedestrian or cyclist, many of whom are children.
To better understand the kinds of injuries children may suffer in such events, here are several examples that commonly result from pedestrian accidents:
-
Concussions and Head Injuries: Young children are particularly vulnerable to traumatic brain injuries when struck by a vehicle. Even when the impact seems minor, any blow to the head should be thoroughly evaluated by medical professionals.
-
Broken Bones: Fractures to the legs, arms, or ribs are common, especially if the child is thrown or falls forcefully. Treatment can involve casts, surgery, or prolonged physical therapy depending on the severity.
-
Internal Injuries: Organ damage or internal bleeding may not be visible at first but can present serious health risks. Prompt imaging and diagnostic tests are often required in pediatric cases.
-
Psychological Impact: Accidents can leave lasting emotional scars. Children involved in traffic incidents may develop anxiety, nightmares, or fear of crossing roads again.
-
Lacerations and Soft Tissue Injuries: Cuts, bruises, and muscle sprains can range from mild to severe. While some heal quickly, others may leave permanent marks or require cosmetic treatment.
