Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Pedestrian accidents in Texas are among the most dangerous types of crashes. Unlike drivers, pedestrians have no protection against the force of a vehicle, which often results in catastrophic injuries.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reports thousands of pedestrian crashes every year. Hundreds of victims lose their lives, while many more are left facing injuries such as broken bones, spinal cord damage, traumatic brain injuries, and long-term disabilities. High-speed roadways like I-20 increase the risk of catastrophic outcomes.
Common causes of pedestrian accidents in Texas include:
- Distracted Driving: Motorists looking at phones or GPS devices may fail to notice people crossing or walking near roadways.
- Failure to Yield: Drivers making quick turns or lane changes may overlook pedestrians in crosswalks or near intersections.
- Nighttime Visibility: Many serious crashes occur after dark, when pedestrians are harder to see.
- Highway Access: Pedestrians on or near highways face extreme danger due to fast-moving traffic and reduced reaction time.
For victims, the consequences extend beyond physical injuries. Medical bills, ongoing treatment, lost wages, and emotional trauma can take a major toll on families.
