Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Texas ranks among the top states for pedestrian accidents, and the numbers continue to rise each year. Busy intersections, speeding drivers, and distracted motorists create dangerous conditions for people walking across city streets. In areas like DeSoto and Dallas County, pedestrian crashes often happen during evening hours when visibility is low and traffic is heavy.
Pedestrian accidents happen for many reasons, but the most common causes include:
- Distracted driving, such as texting or adjusting navigation, while behind the wheel
- Speeding through intersections or residential zones
- Failure to yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks
- Running red lights or stop signs at busy intersections
- Low visibility from poor lighting or heavy rain
When vehicles strike pedestrians, the results are often catastrophic. Victims can suffer head trauma, broken bones, internal injuries, or spinal cord damage. Recovery can take months, and some victims face lasting disabilities. Beyond physical pain, families also experience emotional trauma and financial stress from medical bills and lost income.
