Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

El Paso, TX - Pedestrian Struck Near Rutherford StIn Texas, pedestrian accidents continue to pose serious risks, particularly in urban and suburban areas with high traffic volumes. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, thousands of pedestrian-related accidents are reported each year, many resulting in significant injuries or fatalities. These accidents often occur in intersections, school zones, and busy residential neighborhoods.

Understanding how and why these incidents happen can help raise awareness and potentially reduce future risks. Below are some common injuries pedestrians may suffer in these accidents:

  • Head Trauma: When struck by a vehicle, pedestrians are at risk for concussions, skull fractures, and traumatic brain injuries. These types of injuries can have long-term effects and require extensive medical care.

  • Spinal Injuries: The force of impact can result in damage to the spine, including herniated discs or even paralysis. Rehabilitation and treatment for spinal trauma can be lengthy and costly.

  • Fractures and Broken Bones: Pedestrians often suffer from fractures to their arms, legs, or hips. Recovery may involve surgery, physical therapy, and months of healing time.

  • Internal Injuries: Blunt force trauma from a vehicle can lead to internal bleeding or damage to organs, which may not be immediately visible but are life-threatening if left untreated.
