Boating Accidents in Texas
Texas offers some of the most popular recreational lakes in the country, but boating accidents can turn a day on the water into a tragedy. Each year, dozens of families across the state experience serious or fatal injuries from crashes involving boats, jet skis, and other watercraft.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reports that operator inattention, alcohol use, and speeding remain leading causes of boating accidents.
These crashes often result in severe outcomes. Children are especially vulnerable, as their smaller size makes them more likely to suffer critical injuries during a collision.
Some of the most common injuries after a boating accident include:
- Head Injuries: These can occur when a person’s head strikes hard surfaces or objects in the water during a boating accident.
- Amputation: Contact with the boat’s propeller or sharp edges can result in sudden and permanent loss of a limb.
- Spinal Injuries: Being thrown from the vessel or struck during a collision often leads to damage to the spine, which can have long-term consequences.
- Internal Injuries: Impact against the boat or dock can lead to hidden but life-threatening damage.
For victims and families, the aftermath of a boating crash can be overwhelming. Medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and emotional trauma add to the burden. Seeking the help of an experienced boating accident lawyer can make a critical difference.
An attorney can investigate the cause, determine liability, and fight for compensation covering medical care, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
