Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

Person in Wheelchair Killed in Crash Near Jeffrey St and Hickory StTexas continues to face a growing number of fatal pedestrian accidents each year. In cities like Dallas and Plano, heavy traffic and limited crosswalks create dangerous conditions for people walking or using wheelchairs.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, more than 800 pedestrians are killed on Texas roads each year. Many of these tragedies happen early in the morning or at night when visibility is low. Even a low-speed collision can have fatal results because the human body has little protection against a moving vehicle.

Some common factors in fatal pedestrian crashes include:

  • Distracted driving: Drivers who use phones or GPS devices often fail to see pedestrians in time.
  • Failure to yield: Many deadly crashes occur when drivers do not stop at crosswalks or give pedestrians the right-of-way.
  • Speeding: High speeds make it harder to stop quickly and cause more severe injuries.
  • Low visibility: Poor lighting, rain, and glare often make it difficult for drivers to see people using mobility aids.
  • Impairment: Alcohol and drugs continue to play a major role in fatal accidents.

Losing a loved one in a pedestrian crash causes deep emotional pain and lasting disruption. Families often struggle with sudden changes, unanswered questions, and the burden of rebuilding their lives after such a tragedy.

When a driver’s negligence leads to a death, families have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. A successful claim can help recover compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering. A skilled wrongful death lawyer can investigate the crash, gather evidence, and negotiate with insurance companies.
