Fort Worth, TX (June 28, 2025) – Shoppers at Hulen Mall faced a frightening situation Friday night when a fire broke out on the mall’s roof, forcing an emergency evacuation and sending one person to the hospital. According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, crews were called to the mall just after 7:15 p.m. on June 27 after reports of heavy smoke rising from the building.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered significant smoke conditions on the second floor and immediately upgraded the response to a two-alarm fire to bring additional resources to the scene. Crews worked both inside the mall and on the roof to locate and contain the blaze.

Officials confirmed that one individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim’s condition has not yet been released. The fire was fully contained to the roof and was declared under control around 8:00 p.m. Thankfully, no explosions or roof collapses occurred, despite early reports that shattering skylights might have caused confusion about the building’s structural integrity.

Shoppers and employees were asked to avoid the area while crews remained on site, ventilating smoke from the building. The Fort Worth Fire Department has not said when the mall will reopen to the public as they continue their assessment and cleanup efforts. The Texas Department of Public Safety may work alongside local officials to ensure fire safety standards are reviewed following the incident.

Our thoughts are with the individual injured and everyone affected by this incident. We hope for a quick and full recovery.

Fire-Related Injuries in Texas

Fort Worth, TX - Hulen Mall Evacuated After Roof Fire Sends One to HospitalFires in commercial buildings like shopping centers can put countless lives at risk in an instant. In Texas, incidents like these highlight the importance of fire safety and quick emergency response. While structural fires are less common than other types of accidents, when they do occur, they can lead to severe burns, smoke inhalation, and traumatic injuries.

Understanding the risks and impacts of fire-related injuries can help victims know what steps to take:

  • Burn Injuries: Burns are among the most painful injuries and often require long-term medical care. Victims may need skin grafts, reconstructive surgeries, and months of rehabilitation. Severe burns can also lead to nerve damage and permanent scarring.

  • Smoke Inhalation: Even when flames are contained, smoke inhalation can cause life-threatening damage to the lungs and respiratory system. Inhaling toxic fumes may lead to complications like pneumonia or long-term breathing problems.

  • Emotional Trauma: Experiencing a fire can leave victims with lasting psychological effects, including anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. This emotional toll can affect work, relationships, and everyday life.

  • Lost Wages and Expenses: Recovering from burn or smoke injuries often means time away from work and mounting medical bills. Victims may face financial stress that adds to an already overwhelming situation.

  • Complex Liability Issues: Fires in commercial spaces can involve multiple parties — from property owners and maintenance contractors to businesses leasing space inside the building. Determining liability is key to securing fair compensation for injuries and losses.
