Richland Hills, TX (December 1, 2025) – A wrong-way crash on State Highway 121 in Richland Hills left one driver dead and another injured on Sunday, November 30. Richland Hills police said the events started around 5:30 a.m. when they received several calls about a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes of Highway 121 near Richland Hills.
About five minutes later, police and fire crews responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 6900 block of Highway 121. Witnesses reported that one of the vehicles was on fire. When emergency crews arrived, they saw flames engulfing one vehicle. Firefighters worked quickly to put out the blaze. After they controlled the fire, they found the driver inside the burning vehicle. The person was the only occupant and died at the scene.
The second vehicle also carried one occupant. Paramedics treated that driver and then transported them to a hospital. Police said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Investigators believe the wrong-way driver caused the crash when they struck the victim’s vehicle. Police also said they suspect intoxication played a role. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death and release the driver’s name after notifying next-of-kin.
Officers continue to gather evidence, review witness statements, and reconstruct the crash to confirm exactly what happened.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the person who lost their life in this tragic collision. We also wish the injured driver a full recovery as the investigation continues.
Wrong-Way Crashes in Texas
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous collisions on Texas highways. They often happen at high speeds and leave drivers with little or no time to react. Early morning hours bring added risk. Visibility is lower, and impaired drivers may make fatal mistakes when entering or crossing a highway.
These crashes usually lead to catastrophic injuries or death. Survivors may suffer brain trauma, severe burns, broken bones, internal bleeding, and long recoveries. Families of those killed face grief that no legal action can erase. Still, a claim can help them regain financial stability and hold reckless behavior accountable. A car accident lawyer can help families and victims understand their rights and guide them through the legal process.
Possible compensation in a car accident may include:
- Medical costs for emergency care provided before the victim passed away.
- Funeral and burial expenses, including memorial services.
- Loss of income and future financial support the victim would have provided.
- Loss of companionship, guidance, and care for spouses, children, or parents.
- Emotional suffering and the lasting impact of a sudden, preventable death.
For the injured survivor in a wrong-way crash, compensation can also cover hospital bills, follow-up treatment, therapy, lost wages, and pain that affects daily life. Some cases also involve insurance claims under uninsured or underinsured coverage, especially if the at-fault driver has limited assets.
Crash reports, toxicology findings, highway camera footage, and witness accounts can all play a role in proving what happened and why.
